As the primary provider of health care in Amador County, Sutter Amador Hospital’s (SAH) role does not end with inpatient and outpatient services. SAH also offers educational classes and interactive support groups in which community members can take part. Better Breathers of Amador County
Led by SAH's Director of Respiratory Therapy, this group meets the first Wednesday in January, April, July and October from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Conference Room at Sutter Amador Hospital.

Cancer Support Group
Co-sponsored by Sutter Amador Hospital and Amador STARS, this group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Amador STARS office. The Cancer Support Group offers an opportunity to ask questions and meet other cancer patients and survivors while learning about nutrition, pain management and other topics. All cancer survivors and cancer patients actively pursuing treatment are encouraged to attend.

Diabetes Support Group
Coordinated by SAH's Outpatient Diabetes Education Program, this group meets the
SAH’s Education Department provides American Heart Association CPR classes throughout the year. Courses include Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers, Heartsaver CPR, Heartsaver First Aid and CPR for Family and Friends. The Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers is recommended for the professional rescuer, and the Heartsaver CPR courses are recommended for the lay rescuer who requires a course completion card. CPR for Family and Friends is recommended for anyone who would like to learn the lifesaving skills of CPR and does not require a course completion card. Fees vary depending on the type of course, and registration is required.
Co-sponsored by SAH and the American Cancer Society, this group meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at the hospital. This group provides a comfortable setting among peers for discussion, education and support through the recovery process for prostate cancer.
SAH's Education Department offers Safe Sitter classes throughout the year. Students learn what to do when a child chokes, how to call for emergency help, baby-sitting business skills and basic child care skills. Students receive a completion card when they complete the two-day program. The cost is $50 with a $25 refund upon completion.
The Gold Country Stroke Support Group meets the first Thursday of every month (excluding July and August) from 4 to 5 p.m., at the hospital.
Developed by the American Lung Association, this free class is for anyone interested in stopping smoking—whether you are a full or part time smoker, have quit before or have never quit. This 8-session program will help you identify reasons to quit and prepare you for the quitting process. Group and individual support is provided throughout the class so you will have the tools you need to remain a non-smoker.
Led by the experienced and caring staff of Sutter Amador Hospital's Family Birth Center, SAH's childbirth education and new parent support programs are designed to help you better understand and enjoy the arrival of your new baby.
For busy parents-to-be, this six-hour class presents a condensed version of the content covered in weeks 1, 2, 3 and 6 of the Great Beginnings Series. A tour of the Family Birth Center is optional.
Boot Camp for New Dads is a program for fathers-to-be, taught by veteran dads. Maternal Connections is a class for mothers-to-be in which new moms share their insights, experiences and advice.
This class is a must for expectant mothers who have chosen or are considering breast-feeding.
This class is designed for first-time or experienced mothers who want to learn more about breast-feeding. It is taught by a certified lactation consultant. Dates are scheduled to follow each Great Beginnings Series as an optional seventh class. This class can be an option for experienced moms enrolling in Great Beginnings Express, or it may be taken separately.
This group meets every Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Family Birth Center on the second floor of SAH.

Your Growing Family
Expectant mothers should choose classes that will be completed at least a month before their due date. Registration and payment are required before attending class. Early registration is recommended, as space is limited. Classes are free for mothers delivering at SAH. Mid-week classes meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday classes are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
